Small Success Thursday
So I kind of just found out about this whole "Small Success Thursday" thing over at CatholicMom. Well, I knew about it from Erin and Sarah, but I only just decided I could graduate to Big Kid Blogging and actually...gasp...interact with other blogs. Hello, world! Also, today has most certainly been a day of a small success. Not a big one, but a justly celebrate-able small one.
I've been quietly panicking over my month-long Christmas break. See, I have this giant project called a thesis that's coming up. And I was supposed to be working on it over break. But instead, I was irritatingly sick for the first week, then there was Christmas, and then I started working full-time at the restaurant, which involved a lot of 5 AM shifts. Therefore...nothing got done. There was a box of books under my bed, and a stack of books on the coffee table, and they sat there mocking me. The more I looked at them the less I wanted to deal with them. At all. BUT today, I finally had no work whatsoever, and I had the freedom to force myself to work on the blasted thing.
Therefore! Behold! My small success Thursday!
1) I finalized as much as possible the main texts for my thesis. If you've ever read, or had your child read, Caddie Woodlawn, Rifles for Watie, It's Like This, Cat, or Jacob Have I Loved, give me a ping and tell me what you thought. I'm writing on the development of the coming-of-age story in modern American children's literature, focusing on Newbery Medal winners. I'm still super freaked out about the thesis, but I'm very relieved to have figured that part out, at least. And I'm almost done sorting through the box of research books that I pulled out of the Christendom library before break, AND I put in interlibrary loan research requests at the library too. Yay!
2) I figured out how to link this to the CatholicMom page! And I decided to actually do it even though it's technically fifteen minutes past midnight and it's sort of Friday. Can we ignore that please?
3) I managed to do laundry (mostly) and clean my room (mostly) which means I'll have less to do over these last couple of days with my family. A bit anti-climactic, I know, but the fact that I had a productive day is rather astounding to me at the moment!

Your fresh look at Catholic life and charge or baring Catholicism is both beautiful and amazing! Chesterton is a perennial go to for me. Few people could also mention Caddie Woodlawn, Cat or Jacob Have I loved. All of those are amazing books. Who cares if is is art midnight! Good you cleaned your room! Everything you've written and than some is productive and than some!
ReplyDeleteOnce I realized that you were commenting and I was posting at the same time, life got really weird. :D Thanks so much for your lovely comments! ~R
ReplyDeleteA last thought. You've hopefully worked on your school-work, you've worked on your blog, but yet, have you worked on your interior life? That is the most important of all.
