AMINALS!!!

This is what happens when I discover a new piece of technology... Scroll down and look at the right of the screen. Check out the Hamster.  His name is Percival Archbold Matthias. Scroll down some more. The Turtles.  Their names are Achilleus and Hektor. Look at the very bottom. Penguins!  No, I have not named them.  Too many to think of immediately.  Any suggestions? Don't forget to feed Percival, Achilles and Hector by clicking inside their habitats.  You can make Percival exercise by clicking on the yellow centre of his wheel.  Achilleus and Hektor can be moved around by clicking and dragging.  So can the Penguins.

Quotes

I was watching The Return of the King tonight, and thought I would compile a handful of my favorite quotes from the end of the trilogy.  Mostly the ones that tend to make me cry!   Forth, and fear no darkness! Arise! Arise, Riders of Theoden! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now! Ride now! Ride! Ride to ruin and the world's ending! Pippin: I didn't think it would end this way. Gandalf - End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass.  And then you see it. Pippin: What? Gandalf?  See what? Gandalf: White shores... and beyond, a far green country, under a swift sunrise. Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for? The Precious made me do it! Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would ta

On Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Laziness

Well, obviously I have not fulfilled my Christmas break resolution of doing lots of lovely posts while I have a month with no schoolwork.  I will, however, try to get a wee bit written over the next few days in-between de-Christmasing the house, packing, and writing for the Rambler. Christmas break has been lovely, barring the three days of pain following my wisdom teeth surgery.  Decorating for Christmas, baking for our Epiphany party, no homework, time to read P.G. Wodehouse and G.K. Chesterton and hang out with friends.  I was able to spend quality time with my sister, too, which was awesome. One thing that I did do over break was go to the movie theatre for The Adventures of Tintin .  For once, I can heartily recommend a movie!  It is not a children's cartoon although it may be advertised as such; there is a bit more than I would find appropriate for anyone under ten or so.  That said, the computer animation is incredibly good, so good that occasionally I had to remind myself t

Poem of the Month: January

It is cold and snowy outside; I feel like the weather ought to be a blizzard; and my mood is a bit quirky.  My thoughts turned to this poem for January's post. The Cremation of Sam McGee by Robert W. Service There are strange things done in the midnight sun By the men who moil for gold. The arctic trails have their secret tales That would make your blood run cold. The northern lights have seen queer sights But the queerest they ever did see, Was that night on the marge of Lake LeBarge I cremated Sam McGee. Now Sam McGee was from Tenessee Where the cotton blooms and blows. Why he left his home in the south to roam ’round the Pole, God only knows. He was always cold, but the land of gold Seemed to hold him like a spell, Though he’d often say in his homely way That “he’d sooner live in Hell.” On a Christmas day we were mushing our way Over the Dawson trail. Talk of your cold! through the parka’s fold It stabbed like a driven nail. If our eyes we’d close, then the lashes froze till som
